Mt Nebo Trail run 14 miles
What a day, what a day!
Up at 3:15 AM to leave at 4:00 AM to get to the race, start time of 7:00 AM temps forecast of 100 degrees with a heat index of about 10 more degrees.
The race starts with about 2 miles of payment before starting on the trail. The course then loops twice around the trail at the top of Mt. Nebo in Dardanelle, AR, then comes hell. At this point we are directed on a paved road, down an 18% grade for 2 miles, where we turn around and run back up to the finish line which is 2.5 miles.
I taped my knees with KT Tape before I left home. My knees have been tender and I knew today would totally push them. I was able to run down the hill! I’m excited about that, last year I had to walk. I did walk back up. I just kept walking. I was afraid that if I stopped and took a break I would never get moving again. But near the top with about .50 mile to go I did take 3, 45 second breaks. I decided that I should have taken more breaks, I could move so much easier after each break.
I appreciate the people who linger around for us slow-pokes. It is so great to see the finish line and hear people cheering. I finished in 3:18:44, 8 minutes better than last year! I can take that!
Next race a 5K in 2 weeks. I haven’t ran a road race all year. I’m excited!
